Fiction

You can gaze across the literary desert, squinting in the harsh light of need, finding, there in the distance, an oasis named Katherine Kirk. She has done a superb job on one of my earlier science fiction novels, which was in desperate need of re-editing. Professional, yet warm; knowledgeable, but also understanding the frailties of the words an author has birthed. She gave my work the strength to stand on its own four legs and gallop.

After finishing my manuscript, I reached out to Katherine for proofreading it. The end result was a vast improvement, a more fluent story without any grammar mistakes. Do not count on various grammar software. You can’t substitute a good editor! I now feel more confident in putting my novel on the market. I highly recommend Katherine Kirk as an editor.

Katherine proofread my first Science Fiction book, The Shape of Fear, and she did an amazing job. I will ask her to do the same for the rest of the Android Wars series.

JJ Toner, Science Fiction author

Katherine proofread my book on such short notice and was so quick! I’m so glad I had her help me out, or my book would have had several errors I totally overlooked! I’ll totally choose her to proofread for me again in the future. Thanks, Katherine!

Tacee Theobald, children’s author

It was great working with Katherine. She got into my story pretty quickly and sent me good, thoughtful questions promptly. Her detailed analysis of my writing was impressive. She caught a few inconsistencies quickly and made corrections accordingly. Katherine’s proofreading was very much needed, helpful, and timely.

Education

Working with Katherine has been a great pleasure. Katherine’s communication was superior throughout the editing process. My workbook was different from most of her editing assignments. Despite this, as copy-editor for the workbook, she took the time to understand the workbook, the audience, and the workbook’s purpose. Because she invested the time in understanding the nature of my work, her suggestions added great value by clearing up areas of the workbook that were unclear or confusing. Katherine also demonstrated an excellent understanding of scaffolding and Bloom’s Taxonomy which were essential elements of the workbook. She incorporated this knowledge into her suggestions which resulted in a much-improved product.  Katherine did a wonderful job, and I would highly recommend her for any editing project.

Katherine proofread the subtitles for my online ESL courses, which was a huge time saver for me. It was really important for an English class for intermediate learners not to see mistakes in the subtitles while I am trying to drive home the point of good conventions in class. She was able to check to computer-generated subtitle files and add the appropriate punctuation, capitalization, and homonym errors that a computer can’t pick up. This kind of service was so important both for my class’s learning experience and the time I was able to spend giving feedback instead of working on polishing video lectures.

Katherine proofread and edited my Honours thesis. She was professional and thorough in her approach and was able to meet a rather stringent deadline. I would highly recommend Katherine for any proof reading or editing task and will ask her to assist with any future publications I write.

When it comes to proofreading, she’s simply the best
For developmental editing, she beats all the rest
Her work is exceptional, and will pass any test
Her help on this project has made us feel blessed.

She smashed the deadline, just as she said
Always working at full steam ahead
She found little errors on every line that she read
And we ended with a quality product instead

So, if you want your smile to beam
If you need your product to gleam
If you need your writing to stick to the theme
Then make sure that Katherine is part of your team.
